What are New Zealand’s three main business structures I can choose between?
Sole Trader – the cheapest and easiest business structure to Set Up and maintain – and usually suited to contractors and freelancers. This suits single owner businesses only. Read more here
Limited Liability Company – a more complex business structure to Set Up and maintain, it has the benefit of offering limited liability to the owner should the business fail. It is suitable for businesses with one or more owners. Read more here

What does the Business Set Up Tool do?
The Business Set Up Tool fast tracks the great idea you have, from just that, an idea, to the next level – to sorting your business structure, and getting you registered properly.
After you Set Up a user account with Afirmo, you’ll be invited to create an organisation in your account at the same time. You can have multiple organisations in your account, and you can invite other Afirmo users to access any of your organisations.
If you have already Set Up an organisation yourself, be it a sole trader, partnership or company, then you can import these details via a NZBN code when you create your organisation with Afirmo.
This takes seconds to streamline your onboarding journey.

Sole Trader
The Sole Trader Business Set Up Tool takes you through a very simple Set Up process if you need to set one up. Afirmo takes care of all the important registrations.
Just follow the Sole Trader Set Up Tool process and get trading.
Once your business has been Set Up, you can maintain your business’s details in the Business Profile and store or register important numbers from there, like Setting Up an ACC Cover Plus account.

Limited Liability Company
Afirmo’s Company Formation Tool takes you through a speedy Set Up process. Download our Director and Shareholder Consent Forms and follow the easy step-by-step instructions.
You can choose Afirmo’s template legal documents as part of the company formation process (including shareholders agreement and company constitution) or use your own or come back and add these later.
You can maintain the company information, including updating shares, shareholders and director details with Afirmo. Afirmo will sync with the Companies Office once you approve the changes to ensure you are compliant.
